Ian Gardner

Ian Gardner

General Manager

Ian joined the Club as the General Manager in November 2014.

With over 25 years of general management experience at fine private golf and country clubs and prestigious golfing resorts in South East Asia, South Africa, the Middle East and the United States, he brings a wealth of golfing knowledge, tournament operations experience and club management expertise to the management team at the club.

Ian started his working life when he came to Hong Kong as a probationary inspector with the Hong Kong Police in 1983. He left the police force in 1990 to become the Operations Manager at Discovery Bay Golf Club on Lantau Island. In 1995 he left Hong Kong to join Club Corporation of America (a Dallas based company and the world leader in private club ownership and management) and for the next 14 years he was assigned as the General Manager and Chief Operating Officer of fine private clubs in the Philippines, South Africa and California. He has also worked for Troon Golf at Abu Dhabi Golf Club and, in recent years, as a Director of Operations for IMG’s Club Services Division based in Singapore and as the opening General Manager of the prestigious Nicklaus Club-Beijing in China.

Dean William Nelson

Director of Golf

Dean is a British Class AA PGA Professional who joined the Club in December 2010.

Dean’s training as a PGA Professional commenced in 1991, where he served as a PGA apprentice at Lanark Golf Club, Scotland, the world’s 25th oldest golf club. Dean went on to graduate in early 1995 and spent the next two years in London where he enhanced his coaching and retailing skills.

Dean then headed back to Scotland where he became the Senior Golf Professional for the Duke of Roxburghe at the Duke’s private resort, The Roxburghe Hotel and Golf Course.

From 1999 to 2006 Dean assisted with the growth of Golf in the Middle East with his first post working with Dubai Golf and then with PGA Golf Management where he was tasked with the challenge of opening the first grass golf course in Kuwait.

Most recently Dean has been in Portugal’s Algarve region working with Starwood Hotels and Resorts in their European flagship resort the 5-star Sheraton Algarve Hotel and Pine Cliffs Residence. His role as Senior Director of Golf and Recreation saw him oversee the golf and recreation of the resort as well as having a role on the regions executive committee advising to two further golf resorts.

Randy Witt, CGCS

Randy Witt, CGCS

Course Manager

Randy has served as the Club’s Course Manager since 2006.

Before moving to Hong Kong, Randy was Golf Course Superintendent of the Bull at Pinehurst Falls in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course which was ranked 2nd best new Upscale Golf Course for 2004 by Golf Digest magazine.

Previously, he acted as a consultant to The Woods Golf Course in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Between 1984 and 2002, he was Golf Course Superintendent at the Oneida Golf and Country Club in Green Bay. He upgraded the club to achieve a ranking as one of the Top Ten Golf Courses in the state.

From 1978 to 1983, he was Golf Course Superintendent at Janesville Country Club in Wisconsin; and from 1975 to 1978, Golf Course Superintendent at Reedsburg Country Club in Wisconsin.

Randy is a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America and graduated from Penn State University’s Turfgrass Management Program.

Clubhouse Manager

Sue Sue joined the Club in 1987.

Having received the International Baccalaureate Diploma from the International School of Geneva, she went on to obtain her Diploma d’Etude Hoteliere Superieures from the Ecole Hoteliere in Lausanne.

After training with Hong Kong Hilton and the Movenpick Restaurant & Hotel Group in Geneva, she held a variety of positions with the five star luxury Hotel de La Reserve by Lake Geneva from 1980 to 1983 and served as office and personnel manager at the Washington Square Bar & Grill in San Francisco from 1984 to 1985, followed by a year studying Intensive Mandarin at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Jonny Tang

Jonny Tang

Financial Controller

Jonny joined the Club in 1997.

He started his career in auditing at Price Waterhouse, an international audit firm, and held accounting positions with the restaurant groups Hot Gossip Ltd. and YHY Food Product Ltd., Gordon C. & Co., Ltd., a watch manufacturer with factories in China, Olivier Hong Kong Ltd., a trading group in Asia with headquarter in Hong Kong, and United Artists Cinema Circuit Ltd.

Jonny is a Fellow Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and holds a Master of Science in Information Systems and a Master of Professional Accounting.

Mark Gailey

Mark Gailey

Deep Water Bay Manager

Mark, an Irish national joined the club as Manager of Deep Water Bay in September 2011.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Honours degree from University of Humberside Mark embarked on his career in hospitality in Belfast.

Moving to Hong Kong in 1996. Mark worked in the Excelsior and subsequently at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong until 2001. Mark ran a number of high profile restaurants in London and Singapore before joining Millennium and Copthorne Hotel Group in Singapore in 2005.

Mark served as Director of Food and Beverage for M Hotel and subsequently Orchard Hotel, Singapore in the same capacity, before moving to his most recent prior position as Executive Assistant Manager of the 5 star Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
